This project was started with thoughts about travelling, exploring the world and experiences from journeys. The sketchbook is filled with various hand drawn sights of the world and different modes of transportation like busses, airplanes or hot-air balloons. This passion for travelling got connected to a concern about how long all the impressive natural sites of the world will exist and be visitable. Human-made pollution and chemical incidents affect these places every day. This project brings two opposites together. On the one hand the enthusiastic exploring idea of journeys, on the other hand the concern about polluting the environment through going around with various modes of transportation.

As a result, sustainability and environmental friendliness became a very important topic for this mixed weaving and printing project. The collection was also accompanied by a dissertation about sustainable textiles in the twenty-first century. The expanded conciseness about supply chains, recycling and consume caused that the threads for this project were produced by screen printing and cutting old cotton shirts. Most new yarns and all printing cloths were bought from fair trade- and eco-certified suppliers. To create skin friendly, allergy-free and very soft textures only plant fibres like cotton, linen and jute were used.

The topic of journeys, like stringing together various experiences, inspired the hand-woven samples. The different modes of transport during an adventure formed the objects for screen printed (reactive dyes and discharge technique) patterns. The colour palette was mostly influenced by the raw cottons and linen materials. Soft Cream colours are mixed with cold and clean greys and black. To revive opposites again, yellows in cold shades and in warm and cosy mustard tones are added. These colours also remind of the alarming yellow as a signal colour in nature and warning signs made by humans.

The heavyweight fabrics are suitable for interior products for consumers susceptible to allergies. As bed linen, leisure clothes and childcare textiles the collection is breathable and has a very comfortable surface. Furniture upholstered with these fabrics would be highlights in every high class living room.
